1980-1985: Leningrad (St.Petersburg) State University, Faculty of History, Dpt. of Medieval History and some disciplines on the Dpt. of Archaeology and Dpt. of Classical History, with the theme “Slavic Inroads into the Territory of Byzantine Empire in the 6th cent. AD”. Studying additionally Archaeology, Classic History, Classic-Greek, Latin, Rumanian, Italian and French. Diploma n 1829, 06/26/1985

From 1984: taking part in the work of the archaeological seminar of Prof. Ph.D. Mark Shchukin (State Hermitage) dealing with the themes of the origin of the Slavic culture, of the archaeological chronology of the Roman barbaricum and of the role of the Roman frontier fortresses in the interaction between the Romans and barbarians.

12/25/1986-12/24/1988: Post-graduate study at the Institute of Archaeology (Leningrad branch) on the theme «Ethno-Cultural Processes on the Territory of Danube-Dnyestr Region in the Middle of the 1st mill. AD», dealing with Roman(Byzantine)-barbarian (i.e. Slavic, German, Nomadic) relations in the 6th century AD. The defense of the thesis for the Ph.D. (“kandidat nauk”) degree, diploma n IT 014251 03/29/1989.

From 02/01/1988 till 06/30/1998: working as scientific researcher in the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences of USSR (now the Institute for the History of the Material Culture of the Academy of Sciences of Russia) in St. Petersburg - at the Department of the Classical Archaeology; the investigation field was the absolute and relative chronology based on coins in the archaeology of the late antiquity and the Roman-barbarian relations in the 4th - 7th centuries AD.

From 1992 till 1998 working additionally: in the Classical Gymnasium and later in the Academically Gymnasium – with school pupils, in the Institute of Management and Economics – the courses for graduate students “Early and Classic History” and “Word History”; in Russian Christian Humanitarian Institute and in Greek-Latin School – the courses for graduate students “Roman History” and “Roman Mode of Life”;

From 1992: member of the editorial boards of the archaeological journals “Peterburgskij Arxeologiceskij Vestnik” and “Stratum-plus”.

1994/95: working on the theme “The Late Classic Coins as the ground for the Chronology in the Archaeology and History”, supported by International Scientific Fond (grant No. ZZ4000/045);

1994/95: working on the theme “The problems of the absolute Chronology of South-East Europe: the Bronze Coin Hoards of the AD 337-641” supported by Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (Kennziff. From July 1998 till July 2000: the leader and grant holder of the collective (4 persons) scientific project of Research Support Scheme of the Open Society Support Foundation, grant 841/1998 with the theme “Warfare of the Barbarian Peoples of South-Eastern Europe in the 2nd–6th Centuries A.D. ( As Described by the Late Classical Authors)”.

25.10.2000–8.11.2000 the voyage to Paris to work in Collège de France – CNRS-Centre d‘histoire et civilization de Byzance supported by the Travel Program Open Society Institute HAT058.

From November 14 till December 3, 1998: working in Paris in Collège de France – CNRS-Centre d‘histoire et civilization de Byzance supported by the Travel Program Open Society Institute TAB 829 on the theme “Circulation of the bronze coins on the Balkans and Aegis in the 6th century AD”.

2000–2002: taking part in the collective scientific project of the RGNF (Moscow) on the theme “Eastern Europe according to the “Geography” of Claudius Ptolemy” with Prof. D.Sc.Mark Shchukin (State Hermitage) at the head.

March 2001: visit to Switzerland, invited by Circulus numismaticus Basiliensis, Basel–March 28: Haus zum Hohen Dolder) and Zurchneres Nimismatischen Gesellschaft with the report “Die Struktur des Munzumlaufs in der Spiegelung der Munzfunde”.

2001-2002 Scientific supervision (with M. Shchukin und N. Bondarko) over the translating in Russain of the Book of H. Wolfram “Die Goten”.
